I studied sociology, ethnology and Eastern Slavonic philology at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg; during my studies, and particularly in the context of my empirical thesis, I studied and applied qualitative research methods.
I have visited Auckland in recent years as part of two field studies. In particular, I am fascinated by the conflict between expectations and reality, self-image and public attribution, ideals and practices. The environmental issue extends beyond its commonly perceived limits: conflicts over identity, culture and justice are played out in the context of "good" and "clean" life in the city. I am interested in how an environmentally friendly lifestyle in the city is understood, symbolized and also instrumentalized.
